No Rest for the Weary

Face it—we live in a stressful society where hard work is valued over relaxation. If people take just one day off, they are lazy…slacking off…or a loafer drifting about with no motivation. On weekends, we still think we have to be “productive” with projects around the house. Why can’t we relax?

Work - Stress - Pain - Illness

Old Puritan ideals, which America was founded on, involved a lot of work and little rest; however, we do not need to rely on physical labor for our survival today. With time saving appliances and devices today, there is no need to break our backs to make food, do the laundry, clean the floors or go to town using the horse and buggy.

Yet, we still take those ideals of hard work and apply them to other things in our lives—much to the demise of our health and well-being. When we work too much, with no relaxation, we become stressed. When we are stressed, we have pain as a result, which then turns into unexplained illnesses and diseases. And for what? Things that have little value in the long run? Things that you don’t really need?

Time to Relax

You know that relaxing is beneficial…that it can bring about peace of mind and a sense of well-being. You may even know that relaxing can heal you when you are sick or injured. But you may not know how powerful relaxing can actually be. In fact, taking scheduled time for relaxation can:

  1. Increase your immunity
  2. Lower your blood pressure
  3. Reduce muscle tension and chronic pain
  4. Improve your concentration
  5. …and so much more!

Relaxing can bring about powerful healing responses in your body and mind. When you are consistently relaxed, injuries happen less frequently because you are able to concentrate and focus on your activities. Illnesses are fought off more efficiently because of your increased immunity. You have lowered blood pressure because you are not stressed. But how do you relax when your life is so busy?? A great starting point is scheduling an appointment with a Bowen therapist.

Bowen Therapy—What is it??

While you could compare Bowen therapy to massage therapy, it would be comparing apples and oranges. In fact, what Bowen therapy does, massage therapy cannot touch. A series of light “rolls” or touches in intervals of a couple minutes are used on certain parts of your body to stimulate the body’s system. It works on the principal that the body knows how to heal itself, but it just needs a push to get it working.

Why it Works

Neurological impulses are sent to the brain when this technique is used, and when the impulses are received, the brain immediately relaxes the body, resulting in an immediate surge of energy to the appropriate systems. Muscle spasms are relieved and blood and lymph flows are increased. The immune system takes over, resulting in an overall feeling of relaxation and well-being

What About You??

In this busy world, it’s hard to remember to schedule time for yourself. But if you have no time for yourself, the world isn’t going to make time for you. Think of all the people depending on you—what if you left them early? Who would they depend on then? It’s like being on an airplane; put your own mask on before you help your seat mate with their mask. Take care of yourself with a Bowen therapy appointment before you take care of others. You owe it to them!!
